VOCAL APP︎︎︎

SELF DIRECTED
2021

BRIEF

Use the location-based capabilities of phones to create an app that maps concealed aspects of the unseen city.

CONCEPT

This app uses archival imagery and user inputs to uncover and map the shared physical and psychological consciousness of the city. The design features lime accents, halftone effects, and moving elements to convey the energy and urgency of the protest content.

RATIONALE

The rigidity and regulation of the city conceals its more rhythmic dimensions which disclose the true values of a place and its people. Vocal explores local protests via a collaborative map, tracing and distilling historical and current stories of activism and liberation.

I extend this respect to all First Nations peoples, including Elders past, present and emerging. I also acknowledged that First Nation sovereignty was never ceded. This continent always was, is now, and always will be, Aboriginal Land.
